Do you have a constant reminder of your purpose here on earth? A constant reminder that God is with you? Moses did. In Exodus 4 the Lord gave Moses a sign so that others might believe him that the LORD had sent him (v1-8). In verse 17 it says “And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.” Remember the sign was so others would believe Moses’ report that the Lord sent him. Now skip down to verse 20 “And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.” Moses wanted people to believe that he was sent by God to give them a message. He made sure he had the rod with him, the one thing he thought they might believe (a sign)…because in his mind they would not believe his (Exodus 4:1) reports. I think this rod was a constant reminder to Moses that he had a job to do and was commissioned by a Holy God todo it. What about you and I? Does our Bibles serve as a constant reminder or only a Sunday adornment? Are there other things in our lives that constantly remind us of our God given jobs? Maybe if there was a constant reminder; like the rod for Moses or the limp for Jacob (Gen 32:22-26); we might be more faithful to do our calling.
