Are we prepared to handle temptations? One way to find out is to look at your Scriptures that you have memorized. For some John 3:16 is the first verse they ever memorized as a child, and as an adult the only verse they can recall. Yet others could quote many verses, but can not tell you where they are found in the Bible. Then there are the few who seem to be a walking Bible in their memorization of the Scripture.
Let’s take a look at how Jesus handled temptation by the tempter (the devil himself). Matthew 4:3-4,7,10 “And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God…Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God…Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Jesus quoted Scripture in dealing with the tempter, and notice He did not give chapter and verse, He simply quoted scripture. So how much Scripture do you have available to you when the tempter strikes? As he usually does not strike when you have your Bible in your hand. Fall in love with the scriptures again, and see what can happen.
