My husband preached on Mark 8:27-35 today. Yet my heart kept taking me to a piece of Scripture that was not the main thought of his message. My heart kept going to Mark 8:33 “But when he had turned about and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.” Putting myself in Peter’s shoes that rebuke stung!! Think about it: Jesus looks at you and says: “Get thee behind me, Satan” Could anything be more painful than to hear your Lord and Savior rebuke you in such a manner?
Praise God the story does not end here!! Rebukes of such a kind tend to destroy relationships with others, yet this rebuke did not destroy. The relationship continued as we see later in the book of Mark. Have you been rebuked lately? Is it because someone really loves you so?
