Ever been in a situation were the world around you seems to be falling apart, and you are just sleeping through it? That is exactly were we find Jonah in Jonah 1:5 “and he lay, and was fast asleep”. Sleeping in a storm so bad that those around him feared for their lives, were willingly making financial sacrifices, and started crying out to their gods…yet Jonah is just sleeping away in a lower part of the ship. Not awakened by the storm, the cries, or any of the commotion happening on the levels above his slumbering head, not to mention the sounds of the raging sea bashing the sides of the ship. He would have continued his sleep indefinitely had the ship master not aroused him. Jonah knows why the storm has come and knows what needs to be done to calm the sea for those around him (Jonah 1:12,15). What about you? Have you ran from God; like Jonah, only for God to pursue you with a storm (because He loves you) and you decide to SLEEP through it, until something forces you awake?
