Continuing our look at Mark 5, I am reminded of the Old Testament story of Job. In Job, Satan requested permission from God (Job 1:7-12, 2:3-6) to try to get Job to curse God. God granted the request. In Mark 5 we see the devils asking Jesus for permission to leave the demoniac and enter the swine. Jesus granted them their request. The Bible puts it this way: “And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave ” – Mark 5:12-13a. Notice in the book of Job; Satan himself got permission to mess with Job, and in the book of Mark all the devils that were in the demon possessed man got permission to move.
What does this mean for the Christian? Simply put, it means that the evil demoniac world is a servant to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You can rest assured that nothing happens to you that Jesus does not know about. Jesus has control of the evil things that happen also. Now that is comfort! Since our Savior loves us so.
