Have you ever had someone tell you the truth about yourself in a way that it stung? God said something to Adam that I think probably stung, I know it stings just to read it. God was telling Adam and Eve what the consequences of their disobedience would be, and He speaks very plainly. Let’s look at Genesis 3:19 “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: from dust thou art, and unto dust shall thou return.” Not only is Adam going to now have to deal with thorns and thistles (v18) but he is reminded that he is but dust. Remember Eve ate of the fruit and gave it to her husband, and she thought it would make one “wise” (v6)? Is it not like us to think ourselves wise sometimes, when we are really but dust?
