Many of us are familiar with John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” As Easter approaches this verse takes on another meaning for me. Easter completes this verse. God gave His Son because He loved you and me. But sometimes I think we gloss over what God gave. He gave Jesus who would perfect would suffer a shameful death on a Roman Cross. He gave us Jesus who was the God-man who humbled Himself to a death, that back in Genesis we are told is part of the curse for fallen sinful man…of which Jesus was not. He gave Jesus who as part of the Trinity knew no limits, but limited himself while here on earth…he knew hunger, temptation, emotions, and the like. The good news is that He gave Jesus, the one who had victory over sin, the grave, and hell itself. God gave Jesus the one who paid our sin penalty that we might celebrate a reunion with God. God gave Jesus who gave us the gospel when he said (Mark 1:15b) “Repent ye, and believe the gospel.” God gave Jesus. Like the Father then Jesus gave. Jesus gave and gave and gave. Have you accepted His gospel? Have you then gave that gospel to someone else?
