In Jonah 4:9 we see that Jonah gave God what appears to be a habitual situational response. It appears that Jonah’s habitual response to something he is not in agreement with is to get angry, run, and pout. We see this when God first told him to go to Nineveh (1:3), when he is in the belly of the fish (2:2), when he did obey God (4:1-3), and when the shade was removed (4:8-9). This response is Jonah’s habitual response to many situations he found himself in. Our habitual responses, like Jonah’s, might give us a glimpse as to where our hearts are. What is your habitual response? Do you show grace or do you fly off the handle?
