Jonah seems insistent in remaining in his anger and walks out of the city and sits to watch what will happen. Take a look at Jonah 4:4-6 and watch his emotions quickly change based on his situation. God has COMPASSION on Jonah, EVEN when he is pouting, having an ager fit, and apparently depressed as he wanted to die. God shows His compassion by providing much needed and refreshing shade for Jonah. This shade gave Jonah some happiness because he was no longer uncomfortable.
