Yesterday we saw that Jesus has the power to forgive sins. Today we are going to take a look at another part of His being. Not only can He forgive sins, but He is the willing forgiver. Look at the passage in John 8 that deals with the lady that was caught in adultry. The Scribes and Pharisees were about to stone a lady to death as she was caught in the act of adultry (please note in the Old Testament Law both him and her would have been killed Duet 22:22 & Lev 20:10 for the act which they were catght in … not just her). As the Scribes and Pharisees set her in the midst of them and Jesus, they accused her of her sin and asked Jesus basically if they should stone her according to the law of Moses. As you know the story Jesus said that the person without sin was to cast the first stone. An amazing thing happened all her accusers left, and she was left there alone with Jesus – the sinless man. The God-man that would have been able to stone her. Look at the exciting words of Jesus in John 8:10-11 ” When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” Did you catch what the master did? He forgave her and did not give her the death sentence, rather he told her to go on with her life but sin no more. I sometimes wonder how our lives would be after we seek forgiveness if we would just go and sin no more, as Christ is not the accuser of the brethren (that is Satan see Revelations 12:10). Christ the willing forgiver.
