John in I John 5:13-20 spent some words telling us how we can know we have eternal life and that our God hears and answers our prayers. Then in the last verse of I John he makes a profound statement (vrs 21) “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” Here John elaborates on knowing you have eternal life and then he gives a little quick recommendation or order…keep yourselves from idols. Here in America we have many opportunities to have idols…we have the Hollywood and Reality stars, money, position, houses, sports, television, and the list goes on and on. Sometimes the idol is not as obvious. Did you know that your kids or grandkids can be an idol to you? Or other members of your family? Your job can be an idol, as can your vehicles. Be careful sister and make sure you do not have a idol or idols in your life.
