With the first month of the New Year still in progress I am still on verse 1 of the Bible. When I read the first verse: Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” I have to ask why did God create the heaven and earth? I found the answer elsewhere in the Bible. The books of Genesis and Revelation gives us some answers to that very question. Genesis 1:26 shows the earth was created for man to have dominion over and Revelation 4:11 states “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory anad honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” So, to answer the question why was the heaven and eart created is simple. It was created for God’s pleasure, glory, and honor. It was also created for us to have dominion over. The real question then becomes: will we as God’s creation (or as His Children if we are saved) have dominion over the earth in a way that brings pleasure, glory, and honor to God?
