What amazes me the most is the way God addresses Moses lack of trust in Him (Exodus 3:11). God says in Exodus 3:12 “And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.” Really, did you catch that? God tells Moses that he would know that God sent him to do the job after the job was finished.
Interesting, the signs that God would show Moses were for the sake of the others to believe (Exodus 4:1-5, 6-8) not for Moses to believe. God gave Moses God’s name I AM, the changing rod, and a leprous hand made well for the belief of the others. In this historical account in Scriptures signs were for the building of others’ faith, not the person that God was immediately speaking with.
Tokens are for remembrances. Moses would look back on a completed job and know that it was God that sent him to do the job. Completed tasks, not the assignment of them give us a confidence booster, as it did Moses.
